The Latest on COVID-19
With the incessant rise of COVID-19 cases in the country and world at large, a lot of changes will occur in the following weeks to come. And we would love to remind you on necessary precautions to take and most importantly; do not panic. We will get through this together and someday soon; handshakes and hugs will cease from being a crime.
With the changes experienced so far, many information are in circulation already; some facts while others not. Being misinformed during a pandemic is a danger in itself and we hope this post will shed more light on this situation and equip us with necessary tools to keep ourselves and loved ones safe.
According to UNICEF, the virus is spread through direct contact with respiratory droplets of an infected person (generated through coughing and sneezing), and touching of surfaces contaminated with the virus. The COVID-19 virus may survive on surfaces for a few hours to several days, but simple disinfectants can kill it. Studies suggests that the virus is mainly transmitted through contact with respiratory droplets, and not through the air.
“Symptoms can include fever, cough and shortness of breath. In more severe cases, infection can cause pneumonia or breathing difficulties. More rarely, the disease can be fatal,”- UNICEF. Here is a list of precautions you and your loved ones can take to prevent infection;
- Frequent washing of hands using soap and water or an alcohol-based sanitizer.
- Cover your mouth and nose with flexed elbow or tissue when coughing or sneezing, and dispose used tissues immediately.
- Avoid close contact with anyone who has cold or flu-like symptoms.
- Always clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces like phones, countertops.
- Seek medical care on-time if you or your loved ones have any symptoms like fever, cough or difficulty breathing.
Also, with the impending national lock down, now is the time to stock some more on food stuff. Get more of non-perishable foods. If you are short on money, please find the nearest food banks to your location and stock up. If you have more, please share with your neighbors/close communities who have less. Together we will get through this. Stay safe and stay healthy, we are rooting for you as always!
