International Day for the Elimination of Racism.
Racism is a very common word in many parts of the world. Many people assume its meaning is common knowledge, which is not quite true. In honour of the International day for the elimination of racism, lets delve in briefly on what racism is. According to wikipedia; racism is the belief in the superiority of one race over another which often results in discrimination and prejudice towards people based on their race or ethnicity.
Although, officially racism has been eliminated in most part of the world, it still exist all around us in silent undertones. Colonies, segregation, factions and more were created to put people in a particular class to depict the notion that some are inferior or superior. This Ideology is one of the roots of racism. In this part of the world, we don’t quite experience discrimination against race due to the fact we are predominantly of the same race. We in turn experience discrimination against a particular tribe or religion.
Have you ever wondered why we were created differently with our various mannerisms and qualities that makes you unique? It couldn’t possibly be that one race/tribe is loved more or better than the other. Could it be that each one irrespective of who their ancestral line is, is unique, special and equipped with a strength another race/tribe needs, vice versa and together complements each other? Think about that a little, we were all placed in this world because we need each other. Remember, no man is an island of his own. This day is dedicated to the elimination of racism so kick against it in your own little way.
To honour this day, go out of your comfort zone and befriend someone you think is inferior or superior to you and be genuinely nice. There’s no crime in being the first to take that step. Remember, we need each other. Happy international Day for the Elimination of Racism.
